Modern Masters Metallic Paint Review

I recently completed a nightstand makeover that I did using the Modern Masters Warm Silver Metallic paint so I thought I would go ahead and give you guys a full review on this product. If you decide you want to give it a try on your next project, be sure to make sure you order enough paint for your project. This is a thinner paint and doesn’t go as far as something like chalk paint would.
Price and Value
There are brands of metallic paints less expensive than the Modern Masters brand but after using this product I have say it is well worth spending a couple dollars more. Some other metallic paints aren’t as dense as the Modern Masters brand which means you’ll end up using more and metallic paint is already pricey without having to purchase even more.
I ended up purchasing the 32 ounce size for myself so I could have some extra for other pieces, but they also have a 6 ounce size
as well if you want to try it before committing to a larger size.
In the end this paint spreads on easily and is beautiful looking with just one coat but you will most likely want two coats for smooth even coverage depending on what it is you are painting. This warm silver color has a somewhat metallic tarnished silver look just like the picture – it’s not bright silver if that’s what you’re looking for. If you are after a rich elegant look with a warm silver tone, you can’t go wrong with this product.
Application
Applying the metallic paint is a cinch. It goes on just like any other paint using a roller, brush or sponge. Trust me, I tried all 3. However, the tool that gave me the best result was the sponge. The bristle brush left lines in the paint, that may not bother some but for me, if I’m going to use a metallic paint, I want a perfectly smooth finish.
The Modern Masters metallic collection contains real but minuscule metal fragments that catch the eye from certain angles, plus they’re LEED EQ rated which means they have a very minimal aroma not harmful to the environment. The final painted surface is terrific but if your furniture will be in a high traffic area of your home, you may wish to add their Master Clear Protective Clear Topcoat for added protection or just a basic spray lacquer
like I did in my nightstand project. Don’t worry, the clear finish won’t dull the metallic quality.
Cleanup
I’m not sure if the slickness of the paint is what made this so easy to cleanup, but this stuff just fell right off my brush. I rinsed it off with warm water and there were no traces of the paint just from plain water. I’m a little weird about my brushes so I ended up running some soap through it as well, but honestly, this is one of the easiest paints to cleanup that I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with.
